Iedereen die in de jaren 2000 tiener was, zal geweten hebben dat Green Day de plaat 'American Idiot' uitbracht. Hierop stonden enkele gigantische hits, waaronder 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams'. Het nummer begint met een vernuftige en hevige tremolo gitaarklank, en gaat over in een strum. Verder in het nummer dikt Billie Joe Armstrong de sfeer wat aan met een extra gitaarlijn, die later ook als de solo (maar dan in octaven- gespeeld wordt. In het refrein en in de outro hebben we de gigantische powerchords waar we Green Day voor kennen.
