Arctic Monkeys – Do I Wanna Know? Riff

Alex Turner and the rest of Arctic Monkeys were known, especially in the beginning, for their fresh Britpop. In 'Do I Wanna Know?' they prove that they can also write a strong guitar riff. It may not sound too difficult, but there are a few things you should pay close attention to.

Riff

The riff from 'Do I Wanna Know?' is in G minor. You can look at it from the point of view of the fifth position of G minor pentatonic. When you see the Eb on the D string, we are almost talking about the full G minor scale. The fifth position is connected by the slide from the third fret on the A string (C) to the fifth fret on the A string (D). Interestingly, you will have to play the D on a loose string as well as on the fifth fret on the A string.

What should I pay attention to when playing this riff?

  1. Respect the fingering so that you always practice the riff the same way. This way you really get to know it and play it;

  2. Make sure you perform the legato techniques such as the hammer-ons and the slides correctly, the notes must continue to resonate well;

  3. Study the tab at a leisurely pace and learn the riff note by note. Add a group each time. This way you will know and understand him by heart faster.

Good luck!
